Mission San Juan Capistrano
Founded November 1, 1776; previously established October 30, 1775. In its prime, the mission was one of the most prosperous in the chain. Considered the oldest church in California, it is called “Father Serra’s Church” because it is the only one standing where it is known that he said Mass.
